Day 10 (day 6 of whole week)

DAY TEN!  If we were doing the real Whole 30, we would be a third of the way through already!  I weighed myself and I am down another 2.2 lbs for a total of 9.8 so far!  3 more pounds and I will drop into the "overweight" BMI instead of "obese" BMI.  (BTW, that makes me sound huge, but I am tall and have a larger frame for a female.  I wear a size 12).  At the beginning of the year, I was hoping to be there when my parents came back in March, but we were expecting at that time and my weight wasn't a top priority.  Then we lost them (this is a long, complicated story... not for this blog) and I had a slight free-for-all before deciding it was time to get as healthy as possible so the blame on myself would be less.  Thus the real reason for doing the Whole 30 comes out.  I figured cold turkey would be the best and quickest way to improve my health - and I do have to say that, weight wise, it seems to be working.

Today and tomorrow left (Day 10 and 11) until we go to Disney!  I plan on doing Whole 30 compliant breakfasts (I'll bring hard boiled eggs and fruit with us to have in the hotel room) and snacks (probably apples), and trying to make good decisions for lunch and dinner (which there are only 2 of each and we will be at restaurants with my brother's family). I'm a little nervous as I am currently doing so well, but this is life and I knew going into it that we would be breaking the Whole 30 to go to Disney...but I guess I didn't realize how "easy" Whole 30 would be....and my weight loss so far is really motivating me to keep it up.

We are signing up for our next 5k tonight... the Corporate Run - we will be on my school's team - so I should probably start running again so I don't embarrass myself.  We have 3 weeks... I can improve a little in that time, right??  Maybe we will go for a jog Sunday evening after Disney once my brother and fam go back to their room.

We are running low on Whole 30 food, so gotta get to the store tomorrow.

Food for today:

Breakfast - hard boiled egg and fruit bowl
Lunch - hard boiled egg and carrots
PM snack - apple with almond butter
Dinner - Chicken and spinach?  Zucchini?  Not sure, but those are the only 2 fresh veggies we have left.

TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Day 9 (#5 of whole week)

Wow... already at 9 days of healthy eating (minus Saturday evening, that is!)!!

I can honestly say I don't feel any better or worse.  We almost had a slip up last night because doggy was sick and I really didn't want to cook, AND I had forgotten to take the chicken out.  However, Ry guy was supportive and reminded me we wouldn't be eating the healthiest on Sunday and Monday and that we have food that will go bad if we don't eat it before Saturday.

I have a canker sore on my tongue which has been making it difficult to eat saltier foods, which is annoying.  I hope it gets better soon... but it's been 3 days and it's as annoying and painful as ever.  Grr.

I did not weigh myself this morning (pat on the back, Katie!).  We were in bed by 9 last night, but once again, had a very difficult time getting up this morning.  Got up about 5:40, went on a quick 10 min walk with Ryan and Leo, then got lunch ready quick and headed out.

Tomorrow is FRIDAY!!! :) Today, due to yet more testing (I am missing about 10 kids in all my morning classes), we are having a make up work day...so easy, yet frustrating!

I am still very low on calories.  Yesterday I didn't even get to 1000.  I didn't feel hungry besides right after school, but still, not okay.  I need to go buy some more nuts for a quick high calorie snack / addition.

Food plan for today:

Breakfast - banana with almond chia seed butter, coconut flakes, and almond slivers
Lunch - Fruit bowl and carrots with guacamole --- until my owie on my tongue heals, I can't have the salad dressing we have (it's a balsamic and it HURTS my owie big time)
Snack - apple and almond butter (lots of fruit today!)
Dinner - I'm thinking some sort of chicken lettuce wrap.

Two more days til I get to hug my Soph-a-saur and little Grayson!  :) :) :) :) :)

Day 8 (day 4)

Well, before jumping into Whole 30 stuff, yesterday's dr appointment was kind of a disappointment.  Test results weren't in, dr couldn't answer a lot of questions, but I am set up to go get 30 different blood tests done and a special US.  Also got the name of a counselor specializing in this stuff, so we are going to look into that.  We are really hoping that all these tests come back normal and we were just unlucky, or that if there is a problem, it is an "easy fix."  I just want this all to be done with!

Now back to food... yesterday I barely ate... I had my banana during 2nd period, and then I had a parent I had to deal with during lunch and also getting the posters organized for my afternoon classes, so I had a few bites of my salad and ate some of my fruit bowl during 5th period.  Then the dr's office was running about 45 minutes behind and our appt went a bit long, and so I didn't get home til about 4:45.  I ate an apple and almond butter, and then when Ryan got home around 7ish, we had grilled chicken, avocado, asparagus, and strawberries.  I had a handful of nuts too to get my calorie intake up bc it was unhealthily low.  Oh!  And I hard boiled eggs :)

Weighed myself this morning, down another .6 of a pound from yesterday.  I'm going to try to stay off the scale now until Saturday.  My pretty awesome hubs is down almost 30 lbs from the beginning of the year and now weighs less than me :/  But he also goes to the gym every day during lunch.  I don't.  I go on a 30 min walk with the dog after school.  So there's that jaja.

With all this emotional / hormonal stuff going on, I honestly don't know what is being caused by what.  My headache is back, but I don't know if that is due to hormones, the lack of additional sugar, the low calories, the pup throwing up and then barking like a crazy pants, my students not doing their work, etc etc.  I'm also very tired, but again... not sure as to the cause.

As for my non-food goals.. I have been in bed around 9... last night it was prob closer to 9:30... but getting up is a different story.  Yesterday I got up about 540, today it was 550.  Tomorrow I will shoot for 5:30 again, but it's so hard!  Jaja.  I'm tired and my motivation is shot.

5 weeks til summer break, the kids are checked out and not doing their work and it is EXHAUSTING to deal with them all day.  On the plus side, I have a job and there's only 5 weeks left til summer.  We are going to Disney Sunday and Monday with my little brother's fam and I am very excited to see them - it's been a little over 5 months!

Now on to today's food

Breakfast - Banana and a hard boiled egg
Lunch - Salad and Fruit bowl
Afternoon snack - Prob an apple with almond buter and/or carrots with guacamole
Dinner - I forgot to take the chicken out of the freezer, so shrimp with "zoodles," olive oil, spinach, and garlic.

Day 7 (day 3 of whole week)

It's Tuesday!  Yay!  No more Monday til next week and we'll be at Disney with my favorite niece and nephew (and my little bro and sis-in-law) - so a HAPPY MONDAY! :)

Last night I was in bed by 9 but didn't fall asleep until later (I would guess 10 but I don't really know).  It was rough getting up this morning and I struggled to get up by 5:40 - so missed that goal - grrrrr.  However I still got to go on part of the walk with Ryan and Leo.  This afternoon is our follow up doctor appointment, so I think I'm going to have a rough evening with not being able to comfort eat.  I need to get my list of questions organized today during the day.

I weighed myself this morning - down another pound for a total of 7 lbs since last week Monday.  I'll take it!  If only I could lose 7 lbs a week for 5 weeks - then I would be back at my goal weight! ;)

Yesterday I was really hungry.  I only ate whole 30 foods, but gosh... and this morning I am still hungry.  Looking forward to my banana breakfast in about an hour! (I wasn't overly prepared for class this morning so even though I got here early, I had to get everything ready for the day (hole punching, getting online work set up, etc)... therefore I didn't get to eat yet, buu!)

Today's food:

Breakfast: Banana  (I really need to hard boil some eggs tonight...)
Lunch: Spinach and fresh fruit, carrots with guacamole
Snack: Apple with almond butter
Dinner: Chicken with avocado and asparagus

Exercise - Leo walks bc I'm not organized enough to plan anything else at this point! jajaja

Day 6 (Day 2 of whole week)

So last night I was a bit hungry so I had a little snack - but it was Whole 30 approved, so it's okay :)

I decided to add a bit more to my plate (jajaja pun intended!) and make weekly non-food goals as well. This week I am doing two - one is to be in bed by 9pm every night, and the other is to get up between 5 and 5:30 so I don't have to rush so much in the morning and I can also go on Leo's morning walk with him and Ryan.

Last night, we were in bed around 9 and we got up at 5:27.  I went on the walk with Leo and Ryan and still left a little earlier than normal (about 6:10).  We have also started using an essential oil diffuser.  Ryan got it for me with a little set of oils as a surprise :)  Idk if that stuff actually works, but the pup has been a little calmer and it smells nice, so why not?  Last night we also did the dishes, did laundry, cleaned the cat boxes, and took out the garbage.  Today I need to put all the laundry away.

Food plan for today:

Breakfast - Ryan was excited to make me the breakfast I gave him for the past two days - a banana with almond butter, coconut flakes, and almonds.  He loved it... I haven't tried it yet!

Lunch: Salad and fruit salad

Snack: Carrot sticks and guacamole

Dinner: Not super sure but probably stir fry with coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.

Exercise - Leo walks are all that are planned for me today!

Sunday - Day 5 (really Day 1 of whole week of Whole 30)

Well, yesterday we ended up eating not that much chocolate, but way too much pizza jaja.  We did the 5k and I was kind of proud of myself for running 8 minutes straight before a walk break - then doing the rest of the race basically 3 min run, 2 min walk.  It was hot and sunny and I hadn't gone running in over a month!  We finished in about 39 min, which isn't very good, but again, we haven't run in over a month and so.  Until we get pregs again, I am going to try to run 3-4 times a week to try to get my 5k time back down to 30 min.

Anyhow, after the race, Ryan had a glass of wine, we each had a marshmallow with chocolate on it, and some Peterbrooke chocolate covered popcorn - SOOOO good!  We ordered a large pizza on the way home instead of a small and we ate the whole thing.  Then, we ate the last of our wedding cake.  So while we were on track til about 4pm... we were definitely NOT whole30 afterwards.  Today we are back on.  I guess you could say we are easing into this.  Three days, 1 meal break.  Now we are going one week, and will have two days off.  Then it's the real deal starting May 3. Eek!  Now real question - did I have a hard time eating the junk food?  Nope.  No upset tummy, though I did have a little guilt (not much though - we did agree that we would have Saturday "off" bc of the race! ;))

So back to today.  We went grocery shopping this morning and got our fruits, veggies, eggs (we went with cage free), shrimp (frozen), and chicken for the week.

Food:
Breakfast - apple and tea
Lunch - egg salad (with homemade mayo) on a lettuce leaf, carrots and guacamole, strawberries
Afternoon snack - apple and almond butter (Ryan and I shared a Larabar... he ate most of it bc I didn't like it)
Dinner - chicken and steamed broccoli, Larabar (again, shared... Ryan also ended up eating most of it bc I didn't like that one either jaja... I need to get over my pickiness I guess!), coffee with unsweetened coconut milk (not too bad!), and macadamia nuts.

My main concern at the moment is that I have barely been hitting 1000 calories a day (besides yesterday jaja - thanks pizza! ;)).  I "lost" 6 lbs in the 3 days we did the Whole 30 last week.  I doubt I will keep losing at that rate (though that would be AWESOME) but I don't think it's healthy to lose 2 lbs a day!

Day 4... "cheat day"

So yesterday was my first day with absolutely no added sugar.  I did just fine, but I tracked my food and only had about 900 calories, so that's not so good.  I weighed myself this morning and I am down 6lbs since Tuesday - which must be mainly water weight as 1. it's not healthy to lose 6 lbs in 3 days and 2. my clothes don't fit any differently and I don't look any different.  Good news about that is that now I am only 2 pounds from my pre-not good situation weight so I feel less bad about myself than I did the other day.

Today we have our Wine and Chocolate 5k and I will be having some tasty delicious chocolate!  I am going to skip the wine though, and not overdo it on the chocolate.  I am also considering sharing a small pizza with my hubs for dinner along with a Whole 30 friendly salad.  Tomorrow we will go Whole 30 complete (no added sugar) for a week until Disney.. have 2 days off and then start our real Whole 30.

I talked to a co-worker about what we are doing and she thinks that it is good that we are "easing" into it - thinks that it will be easier for us to do since we will have been eating 80% whole 30 compliant for 2 weeks prior to doing the actual Whole 30 even though we will have 3 off days.

I feel fine today.  My headache seems to be completely gone.  We got an essential oil diffuser yesterday and a sample of lavender essential oil.  We had that going last night and cleaned a little this morning.

Plan for today is to plan out our food for the next week so we can go grocery shopping and be prepared for our 7 days of Whole 30.  We also attempted to make our own mayo today so make egg salad for tomorrow's lunch.  (It seems really runny, so we will see how it turns out...) We have the Wine and Chocolate 5k this afternoon at 4:30.

Next Saturday we will go shopping for our real Whole 30 before we go to Disney.  I think we will also bring Whole 30 friendly food for breakfast and snacks, and just be off for lunch and dinner.

Today's food:

Breakfast: Apple and almond butter (this, honestly, is super tasty)
Lunch: Shrimp with veggetti-ed zucchini, olive oil, garlic, and spinach
RACE = CHOCOLATE :) :) :)*
Dinner: Half a small pizza* and spinach salad

*= obviously not Whole 30, but in my defense - I will be eating much less chocolate than I would've before, and normally we each eat half a LARGE pizza, so this is a better decision for us :)

Day 3

Two days down and I realized last night we have a 5k race on Saturday that is the Wine and Chocolate run.  I know I should just say no and not have any chocolate, but well... we are in the "trial run" before Disney, so I am going to have a little bit.  It's the reason I signed up for the race!!! Jaja

Yesterday went fine.  My hubs got home late from work so I had to eat without him (crazy growling tummy!) and I felt bad.  This weekend I really need to plan meals for the upcoming week.  My headache seems to be gone this morning - fingers crossed!

So far, I don't feel any different and I really haven't had any major cravings.  Yesterday afternoon I saw the saltine crackers sitting on the counter (I really should put those away) and thought about eating one, but then I had an apple and almond butter instead.  Probably higher in calories, but a healthier decision regardless!

Today's food plan - first day with 0 added sugar:

Breakfast - Mr. banana.  (he was very ripe... )
Morning snack - 3 carrot sticks
Lunch - fresh version of previous 2 days' salad
After school snack - Apple and celery with almond butter
Dinner - Chicken and avocado and/or broccoli with coconut aminos.

TGIF!!!!  6 hours til my weekend begins :) :) :) :) :)  Plans are the race tomorrow evening and getting Ryan's tux for prom ordered (wooo chaperoning!!  Prom is May 7.  Hoping this food plan will help me fit into a dress...)

Day 2

So yesterday went okay.  I didn't end up eating my grapes because they were too squishy and I didn't like that.  Instead I had an apple with almond butter - which was quite tasty together.  The almond butter by itself - not so much.  I had a plan in my head for today, but I overslept, so I don't even know what is in my lunch bag jaja.  Oh gosh.

This morning I am tired and have a dull headache.  I don't think either is related to WHOLE 30, but rather just how I've been feeling this whole week.  (I had a migraine on Monday that messed up our anniversary dinner, and it still hasn't completely gone away.  While it is no where near migraine status, I've had a dull headache since Monday morning.  It got really bad by the late afternoon, and was back to being dull by Tuesday morning.  It's now Thursday and the dull headache is still there, though "lighter" than it has been.  Hopefully it will go away today! :))

I read a bunch from our Whole30 book last night and got kind of overwhelmed.  It's not the food that freaks me out, but the fact that it says no snacking and that we are only supposed to have 2 servings of fruit a day that now has me on edge, jaja.  Also, supposedly the worst days of this are days 10 and 11 - which are our last two days before Disney.  We are still going to stick to it (not at Disney but for the next 10 days) but I'm starting to wonder if it is a good idea or if we should just wait til after Disney.  But then I think - why put off being healthy longer?

Tentative food plan for today:

Breakfast - Banana
Lunch - Same salad as yesterday
After school snack - grapes and carrots (which might turn into apple and almond butter again)
Dinner - Chicken and avocado (same as yesterday - avocados are ready to be eaten, and we all know that stage only lasts a couple of days!)

Exercise - 1 mile walk with the pup after school, and will try to do a second walk after dinner.

Victory yesterday - it was Wednesday and for the first time in MONTHS, we didn't eat pizza... and we survived!!! ;)

Day 1

Good morning from the Sunshine State!  Ryan and I made the decision a few months back that we wanted to do the WHOLE 30 eating plan.  However, we kept putting it off and putting it off.  Well, 2 weeks ago we found out something very sad and difficult for us, and we decided that the best way we can help ourselves is to take care of our health.  We decided, after 2 weeks of emotional eating, the time is now.  We celebrated Ryan's 28th birthday and our 1st anniversary over the weekend, and we are ready to get a jump start on our health.

We are going to Disney with my brother's family in 11 days, so we will be taking a 2 day hiatus from WHOLE 30 and restarting when we get back, so this will actually be a WHOLE 11, 2 day break, WHOLE 30.  Post WHOLE41, we are planning on continuing forward doing an 80/20 paleo diet.

Side note: In addition to WHOLE 30, I have also started a raw prenatal vitamin and ubiquinol.  We went shopping at both Publix and Whole Foods to make sure we had fresh, whole foods available to us for the week.

DAY 1 food plan:

Breakfast - Banana and my vitamins
Snack - Strawberries
Lunch - Spinach salad with toasted almonds
Snack - carrot sticks and grapes
Dinner - Grilled chicken breast with avocado

Tonight I am planning on hard boiling some eggs in order to have some protein for breakfast.

We will see how today goes and how I feel tomorrow!
